Your role in the mission: Type One Energy is seeking a Senior Engineer with experience in wall conditioning to join its growing team. As a Senior Engineer, you will lead the wall conditioning system on our advanced fusion stellarator, driving progress and ensuring the successful operation critical to achieving our research and commercial goals.
Responsibilities:
- Own the architecture, design, and systemâlevel integration of wall conditioning systems, from initial concept through operational deployment.
- Lead the wall conditioning system architecture for stellarator devices, including glowâdischarge cleaning, wall coating such as boronization, and potentially other techniques.
- Define system requirements and translate them into detailed specifications for inâvessel and exâvessel components.
- Lead wall conditioningârelated trade studies, risk analyses, and systemâlevel design reviews.
- Collaborate closely with plasma physics, vacuum, fueling, electrical, thermalâfluid and structural teams to ensure coherent integration of the wall conditioning hardware within the stellarator geometry.
- Serve as the subjectâmatter expert (SME) for wall conditioning, mentoring junior engineers and reviewing their work for technical accuracy.
- Ensure all wall conditioning system designs meet industry and safety standards.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and implement best practices for vacuum system design and maintenance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Applied Physics or a related discipline (PhD is a plus).
- 10+ years of experience in vacuum technology, highâpower electronics and materials processing.
- Proven experience leading surface and wall conditioning projects in highâperformance environments (e.g., semiconductor, aerospace, nuclear, or research labs).
- Direct experience with tritium and/or other radiological aspects of wall coatings and inâvessel components is desired.
- Proficient with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, NX) and simulation software relevant to wall conditioning.
- Strong analytical and problemâsolving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate effectively across technical and nonâtechnical audiences.
