A leading financial technology business is looking to appoint a Senior Staff Developer / Technical Lead to support the continued growth and evolution of its software engineering function. This is a hands-on technical leadership role, combining high-level software engineering with mentoring, technical decision-making and engineering leadership responsibilities. You’ll work closely with architects, development managers and senior stakeholders to shape engineering standards, influence platform strategy and support the development of high-performing engineering teams. The successful candidate will remain actively involved in software development whilst helping guide technical direction across large-scale platforms and services used by thousands of customers. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges while also developing people, improving processes and driving engineering excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain large-scale backend applications using C# and .NET
  • Lead technical discussions around architecture, scalability and software design
  • Mentor and support developers across multiple levels of experience
  • Drive engineering standards, code quality and best practices
  • Collaborate with Product Owners and stakeholders to deliver robust technical solutions
  • Support platform modernisation and adoption of modern engineering approaches
  • Design and implement APIs, microservices and distributed systems
  • Contribute to recruitment, technical assessments and team development initiatives
  • Support CI/CD improvements and engineering efficiency programmes
  • Provide technical leadership while remaining hands-on with development activities

Requirements

  • Strong commercial experience with C# and .NET
  • Experience designing and delivering large-scale backend systems
  • Strong SQL Server experience
  • Commercial experience working within Microsoft Azure environments
  • Strong understanding of APIs, distributed systems and software architecture principles
  • Experience working within Agile software development teams
  • Proven experience mentoring and supporting developers
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Desirable

  • Previous Technical Lead, Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer or Lead Developer experience
  • Experience mentoring or leading engineering teams for 3+ years
  • Microservices architecture experience
  • Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipeline experience
  • Experience modernising legacy platforms
  • Event-driven architecture experience
  • Docker and Kubernetes exposure
  • Experience contributing to engineering standards and technical governance
