Help shape the future of one of the UK’s most historic theatres. Tyne Theatre & Opera House Ltd is seeking to appoint a new Non‑Executive Director to the Board of the theatre’s operating company. The postholder will help guide the strategic future of one of Newcastle’s most treasured cultural institutions. Built in 1867 as “a Theatre for the People”, the Grade I‑listed Tyne Theatre & Opera House remains at the heart of the city’s cultural life. As an independent charitable theatre, all surpluses are reinvested into preserving the building and expanding access to high‑quality live performance for future generations. This is a voluntary governance role offering a unique opportunity to contribute your skills, experience and insight at Board level while supporting a nationally recognised arts venue.

About The Role

  • Setting the strategic direction of Tyne Theatre & Opera House Ltd
  • Providing oversight, challenge and support to the Executive Team
  • Ensuring strong governance, financial oversight and risk management
  • Acting in the best interests of the charity and complying with legal and regulatory responsibilities

The Board meets four times a year in Newcastle, with an average time commitment of 1–2 days per month, including preparation.
