About the Role

A leading Government client is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to join a large-scale digital transformation programme focused on modernising critical public sector services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement test automation frameworks and solutions from the ground up.
  • Apply Test-Driven Development (TDD), Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD), and risk-based testing approaches.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines and promote shift-left quality practices.
  • Coach and mentor team members on quality engineering principles and best practices.
  • Perform testing across multiple levels, including:
    • Unit Testing
    • System Testing
    • Integration Testing
    • Non-Functional Testing
  • Analyse business requirements and develop effective test strategies.
  • Create and maintain test data and testing artefacts.
  • Participate in collaborative development through pair programming.
  • Review and interpret Java unit tests (e.g. JUnit) to support defect investigation and test analysis.
  • Design and develop automated end-to-end and system tests using Playwright and Java.
  • Build and maintain automated test scripts across UI, API, and system-level testing.
  • Translate requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria into comprehensive automated test coverage.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience in Quality Engineering and software testing.
  • Proven experience with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience designing and implementing automated testing frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of Git/GitLab.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to coach and influence teams on quality best practices.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
