We are seeking an experienced Java Developer to join a high-impact public sector programme supporting a critical UK government service. This role offers the opportunity to work on large-scale systems within a complex and highly regulated environment, contributing to services that impact millions of users across the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain Java-based applications using Spring Boot
  • Support and enhance batch-based and scheduled processing systems
  • Diagnose and resolve issues across application, database, and integration layers
  • Collaborate within controlled release environments using Git
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable and scalable solutions

Core Skills & Experience

  • Strong Java development experience, particularly with Spring Boot
  • Solid SQL expertise, including PL/SQL or equivalent procedural database languages
  • Experience working with batch processing and scheduling tools (e.g. CRON, TWS)
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot across full technology stacks
  • Experience working in Unix/Linux environments
  • Familiarity with version control and structured release processes

Desirable Experience

  • Background in large-scale, enterprise, or regulated environments
  • Exposure to legacy system modernisation programmes
  • Previous experience within public sector or government environments
  • Active or prior security clearance is advantageous but not essential
