Overview
We are partnering with an Energy Solutions business to recruit a driven and commercially astute Senior Business Development Manager to help accelerate the growth of their Energy Advisory Services division. This is a strategic role focused on identifying new opportunities, securing high-value contracts, and positioning Mitie as a leading partner in energy transformation and sustainability. The successful candidate will be instrumental in delivering £5m annualised sales, building relationships at senior stakeholder level, and leading the end-to-end sales cycle across advisory offerings including Energy Consulting & procurement, Energy Management Services, Demand Side Response (DSR), Smart Grid participation, data management, procurement and renewables.
Key Responsibilities
- Business Development & Sales Delivery
- Drive new business acquisition across private and public sector clients.
- Own and exceed a £2m personal annual revenue target.
- Build and maintain a strong, well-qualified pipeline through self-generated leads, networking, and leveraging existing company relationships.
- Lead the full sales lifecycle including prospecting, qualification, bid creation, pricing, negotiation and contract close.
- Engage and influence senior decision-makers (CFO, COO, Sustainability Directors, Estate Managers).
- Understand client challenges around cost, carbon, compliance, and ESG, translating these into commercially robust solutions.
- Act as a strategic partner, identifying cross-sell opportunities across the companies Consulting & Energy Solutions portfolio.
- Work closely with technical experts, solution architects, and delivery teams to build credible, deliverable solutions.
- Partner with marketing and department heads to shape campaigns, case studies and thought‑leadership initiatives.
- Provide accurate pipeline forecasting and market intelligence using a CRM.
- Stay ahead of energy market developments, government policy and sustainability funding.
- Represent Mitie at industry events and stakeholder forums, raising brand visibility.
Skills & Experience
We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate:
- A proven track record of delivering £1m+ annual sales revenue within business development roles.
- Strong knowledge of energy advisory or sustainability services.
- Excellent commercial acumen and confidence shaping complex commercial propositions.
- Experience building high-impact relationships with C‑Suite decision-makers.
- Strong presentation, negotiation and proposal writing capabilities.
- Self-motivation, resilience and a results‑focused approach.
Qualifications
- Degree in Business, Engineering, Energy or a relevant subject (preferred).
- Professional memberships (Energy Institute, CIBSE, IEMA) advantageous.
- Evidence of CPD within energy management, sustainability or decarbonisation is beneficial.
