Overview
We are supporting a leading aerospace engineering organisation in Tewkesbury in the recruitment of an experienced Sliding Head Lathe Machinist. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established, high-performing manufacturing team producing precision components to tight aerospace tolerances, with strong long-term career prospects.
Key Responsibilities
- Set and operate Star Sliding Head Lathes
- Machine components to tight tolerances and high-quality standards
- Carry out inspection and self-certification using manual and automated metrology equipment
- Work from engineering drawings, inspection plans, and technical documentation
- Support problem solving and continuous improvement activities
- Apply lean manufacturing principles (5S, etc.)
- Perform basic preventative maintenance
Requirements
- Proven experience setting sliding head lathes (Star preferred)
- Completed engineering apprenticeship or equivalent
- Experience working to tight tolerances in a precision environment
- Competent using inspection and measurement equipment
- Ability to read engineering drawings (metric & imperial)
- Understanding of GD&T
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to use initiative
- Able to work both independently and within a team
Shift Pattern (2-Week Rotation)
AM: Mon-Thurs: 06:00-14:15, Fri: 06:15-11:45
PM: Mon-Tues: 14:00-21:15, Wed-Thurs: 14:00-21:30, Fri: 11:30-19:30
