  • Produce and check electrical layout drawings, including:
  • Substation general arrangements
  • Cable route layouts and sections
  • LV distribution layouts
  • Switchroom and control room layouts
  • Earthing and bonding layouts
  • Site-wide ducting and cabling routes
  • Work as part of the wider electrical design team to deliver coordinated design outputs in line with programme and quality requirements.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant British, IEC, and utility standards, client specifications, and project requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and designers within the team.
  • Support tendering activities, feasibility studies, and concept design development.
  • Review and approve third-party design submissions and contractor documentation where required.
  • Skills & Qualifications

    • Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems preferred).
    • Proven experience working within a consultancy, contractor, or utility environment in the power or renewables sector.
    • Demonstrable experience in the primary electrical design of HV/EHV AC substations and BoP projects, typically from 11kV to 132kV.
    • Strong understanding of HV and EHV substation installation practices, specifications, and industry standards.
    • Experience providing technical leadership or management of a specialist design team.
    • Competent in interpreting and producing engineering drawings and technical documentation.
    • Familiarity with earthing design software and modelling tools (e.g. CDEGS or similar) is desirable.
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with internal teams and external stakeholders.

    Role-Specific Requirements

    • Proficient in producing substation layout drawings for:
    • 11kV & 22kV distribution networks
