TXM Recruit are working in partnership with a global leader in energy technology and engineering to recruit a Power Systems Consultant to join their growing technical team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced consultant or engineer to step into a high-impact role shaping the UK and European energy transition.
The Opportunity:
As a Power Systems Consultant, you'll take ownership of technical consulting projects across transmission, distribution, and generation networks. You'll use your expertise in power system analysis, modelling, and software tools to provide practical solutions to clients, supporting the planning, operation, and optimisation of resilient energy systems. Your work will influence system performance, grid compliance, and the delivery of high-impact energy projects, while providing a platform to develop your career with a global leader in energy consulting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and deliver consulting engagements in power system modelling and analysis, including system dynamics, transients, interconnection, and grid code compliance.
- Develop and automate models and tools using Python (and occasionally FORTRAN) to support planning, operational analysis, and decision-making.
- Expertly use industry-standard simulation software, including PSSE, PSSSINCAL, PSSCAPE, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink.
- Prepare clear, compelling proposals, project plans, and technical reports for clients.
- Support technical quality and continuous improvement across consulting outputs.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships and identify opportunities for future engagements.
- Provide mentoring and guidance to junior team members.
Requirements:
We're looking for a proactive, technically strong consultant with experience in power systems analysis and a passion for solving complex energy challenges.
Essential:
- Degree (BSc, MSc, or PhD) in Electrical or Power Systems Engineering.
- Proven experience in power systems consulting or engineering, with expertise across steady-state, dynamic, and transient studies.
- Proficiency with power system simulation software (PSSE, PSSSINCAL, PSSCAPE, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink).
- Strong programming skills in Python; FORTRAN experience desirable.
- Experience with transmission planning, operational studies, and performance analysis including HVDC, FACTS, and renewable integration.
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of CIM/CGMES standards or generator/inverter control systems.
- Experience working with transmission/distribution operators, utilities, or energy developers.
- Awareness of UK/Ireland regulatory frameworks and grid codes.
