TXM Recruit is supporting a leading engineering and manufacturing organisation in the search for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing Technology & Engineering team in Saffron Walden. This is an excellent opportunity to work on innovative electromechanical products used across multiple industries, contributing to new product development as well as the enhancement of established product lines.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and development of components, products, and systems using 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred but not essential). You will support technical investigations, develop new design solutions, and work within established product development processes.
This role will see you working across multiple projects, liaising with customers when required, and producing high-quality technical documentation including CAD models, drawings, BOMs, and presentations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop components, products, and systems using 3D CAD software.
- Support new product development and maintain existing product lines.
- Conduct research into materials, manufacturing methods, and assembly processes.
- Perform technical investigations and support prototype testing and validation.
- Create manufacturing drawings, BOMs, datasheets, and supporting documents.
- Provide technical input and present solutions in customer meetings or workshops.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant standards, directives, and safety regulations.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and maintain technical knowledge.
- Contribute to team objectives and support business goals across engineering functions.
- Travel within the UK and internationally as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent relevant experience.
- Strong conceptual design ability and confidence presenting technical information.
- Understanding of standards and directives such as LVD/MD.
- Experience with FMEA/FMECA or risk-based engineering.
- Quality-focused with a strong attention to detail.
- Practical experience developing 3D CAD models and engineering documentation.
- Enthusiasm for technical problem-solving and personal development.
- Ability to work effectively across multiple projects and deadlines.
