The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Estimating Engineer to join a busy precision engineering environment supporting customers across highly regulated industries. You'll play a key role in securing profitable new business opportunities by managing enquiries at the RFQ stage, developing accurate quotations, identifying manufacturing solutions and supporting the successful introduction of new products into production. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong machining background who enjoys combining technical expertise with commercial awareness.

Working Hours:

  • Monday – Thursday: 7:30am – 4:30pm
  • Friday: 8:00am – 1:00pm

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and submit accurate, competitive quotations within agreed timescales
  • Support the generation of profitable new business opportunities
  • Review engineering drawings and determine suitable methods of manufacture
  • Calculate machining cycle times for CNC and manual machining processes
  • Assess tooling, jigs and fixture requirements
  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing and develop strong working relationships
  • Research and evaluate specialist treatment processes and their suitability for products
  • Support technical discussions with customers, including Design for Manufacture activities
  • Participate in project review meetings and provide technical support to Project Managers
  • Work closely with Engineering, Quality, Production and Supply Chain teams throughout the APQP process
  • Ensure new and existing products align with commercial cost targets and business objectives

Non-Negotiable:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar technical role
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • City & Guilds or NVQ equivalent
  • Knowledge of quality systems including ISO 9001, AS9100 and GS3001 standards
  • Understanding of machining techniques, strategies and machine capabilities
  • Knowledge of tooling, jigs, fixtures and precision machining processes
  • Familiarity with subcontracted coatings and heat treatment processes
  • Good understanding of machining a wide range of materials

Desirable:

  • Experience within Aerospace, Defence, Oil & Gas or Nuclear sectors
  • ERP system experience, ideally IFS
  • CAD/CAM experience for model interrogation and quotation preparation
  • Proven track record of quoting, winning and introducing new components within a precision engineering environment
  • HNC or higher qualification in Mechanical Engineering
