Are you an experienced Assembly Technician with a background in high-precision engineering environments? Our client, a leading global defence and technology organisation, is seeking an Assembly Technician to join a specialist team supporting advanced engineering programmes from their Ampthill facility. Working within a highly skilled, close-knit team, you will be responsible for transforming engineering concepts into precision-built, production-ready hardware.

The Role

  • Working from engineering drawings, specifications, and evolving work instructions, you will assemble, integrate, and test complex mechanical systems and sub-assemblies to exacting standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and integrate complex mechanical assemblies and sub-assemblies.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and assembly instructions.
  • Carry out precision fitting, assembly, and basic functional testing activities.
  • Use precision measurement equipment to verify dimensions and tolerance compliance.
  • Work with a variety of materials, including metals, composites, bonded assemblies, and specialist fastening systems.
  • Identify build issues and work collaboratively with engineering teams to implement solutions.
  • Maintain accurate assembly documentation and build records to support quality and traceability requirements.
  • Support Lean manufacturing, 6S activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to prototype and development builds within a fast-paced engineering environment.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have experience working within a high-precision assembly or manufacturing environment and be comfortable working independently while maintaining exceptional quality standards.

Essential Experience

  • Minimum 2 years' experience within a precision assembly, manufacturing, or integration environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Experience using precision measurement equipment such as callipers, micrometres, gauges, and inspection tools.
  • Competent in using manual assembly equipment and light power tools.
  • Understanding of Lean principles, root-cause analysis, and corrective action processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
