The Opportunity
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced CNC Vertical Borer to join an established engineering business based in Hinckley, Leicestershire. The successful candidate will be responsible for machining a range of components to customer specifications, working within a low-volume, precision engineering environment.
The business is also open to considering experienced CNC Turners looking to develop their skill set, with full training provided on the CNC vertical boring machines. You will be responsible for setting and operating CNC machinery, producing components to customer drawings and specifications while maintaining high standards of quality, safety and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Setting and operating CNC vertical boring machines, including Webster Bennett, Doosan and Hyundai.
- Machining components to customer drawings, specifications and production requirements.
- Working with components ranging from approximately 600mm to 1,500mm diameter.
- Working with Fanuc and Siemens control systems.
- Setting tools and making programme edits where required.
- Inspecting own work using appropriate inspection equipment.
- Completing basic machine maintenance and TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) activities.
- Raising PIRs (Production/Process Issue Reports) where required.
- Maintaining 5S standards within the working area.
- Safely handling components, jigs and fixtures.
- Working effectively within a low-volume manufacturing environment.
- Maintaining a strong focus on quality, accuracy and customer requirements.
Candidate Requirements:
- Apprentice trained or time-served in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Ideally 5+ years' CNC machining experience.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Experience with Hermle CNC machinery would be highly advantageous.
- Experience setting and operating CNC machinery.
- Ability to use inspection equipment and inspect own work.
- Experience with Fanuc and/or Siemens controls.
- Ability to edit CNC programmes.
- Strong understanding of safe working practices and component handling.
CNC Turner Consideration:
Experienced CNC Turners will also be considered for the position. If you have a strong background in CNC turning and are looking to develop your experience into CNC vertical boring, full training will be provided on the machinery and processes.
Working Hours
The role operates on a 2-week rotating shift pattern:
- Week 1: Monday–Thursday: 06:00am–3:45pm (30-minute unpaid lunch break)
- Week 2: Monday–Thursday: 3:45pm–1:30am (30-minute unpaid lunch break)
