We are working with a leading global engineering and defence organisation to recruit a CNC Machinist into their high-performing manufacturing team in Ampthill. The Role:

  • You will be working in a precision CNC environment producing complex components for both R&D and production.
  • Set, edit and operate 3, 4 & 5-axis CNC machines.
  • Work with Heidenheim and Fanuc controls.
  • Prove out new programs, tooling, and fixtures.
  • Make offsets and machining adjustments to optimise performance.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Carry out inspection using gauges and review CMM data.
  • Support process development and tooling improvements.
  • Work closely with engineering to refine machining methods.
  • Apply problem-solving techniques to improve output and quality.

What We're Looking For:

  • Strong background in multi-axis CNC machining (3/4/5 axis).
  • Experience with Fanuc and/or Heidenheim controls.
  • Confident in program editing, setup, and prove-out.
  • Able to work from detailed engineering drawings.
  • Experience with inspection and quality control processes.
  • A proactive, solutions-driven mindset.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing / 6S principles.

Nice to Have:

  • Milling experience.
  • Exposure to R&D, prototype or low-volume manufacturing.
  • Experience creating process documentation or work instructions.
  • Continuous improvement / process optimisation experience.
