TXM Recruit is currently recruiting on behalf of a leading organisation within the rail industry for an experienced Heavy Maintenance Manager to join their team in Crewe. This is a key management position responsible for the successful mobilisation, deployment and commercial delivery of heavy maintenance projects, including classified repairs, overhauls and refurbishment programmes. The role will be predominantly based in Crewe, with some travel required to support projects at other sites.

As Heavy Maintenance Manager, you will take responsibility for delivering projects safely, efficiently and to the required customer, technical and legislative standards. You will manage internal and external stakeholders, lead project mobilisation and oversee the development of the teams required to deliver major heavy maintenance work packages.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the delivery of heavy maintenance, repair, overhaul and refurbishment projects.
  • Building effective relationships with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Leading the mobilisation of new projects, including resource planning, work breakdown structures, tooling requirements, risk registers and Bills of Materials.
  • Recruiting and developing Project Managers, Engineers, Planners and other skilled teams.
  • Managing customer interfaces and leading Contract Review Meetings.
  • Monitoring project performance through management information and KPIs.
  • Supporting the bid team with technical and operational input for potential new contracts.
  • Identifying opportunities to maximise revenue and deliver cost savings.
  • Driving continuous improvement and LEAN initiatives.
  • Developing effective processes, procedures and reporting systems.
  • Ensuring all work is delivered safely, on time and to a high standard.
  • Maintaining excellent standards of housekeeping and compliance.
  • Taking part in the management on-call rota when required.

We are looking for an experienced rail professional with a strong background in rail vehicle heavy maintenance and project management. You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience within rail vehicle heavy maintenance.
  • Proven project management experience.
  • Experience managing teams and developing technical personnel.
  • A strong understanding of health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Experience with production efficiency tools and continuous improvement techniques.
  • An understanding of ROSCO, TOC and FOC relationships.
  • Excellent stakeholder and customer management skills.
  • Strong organisational and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and SAP.
  • A full and valid driving licence.

A BTEC or City & Guilds qualification in Engineering, professional membership of IMechE or IET, formal project management training and people management training would be advantageous.
