Are you a Chartered Engineer (Electrical or Mechanical) with extensive rolling stock and fleet engineering experience? Have you successfully led and developed senior fleet or engineering teams within a regulated rail environment?

If so, TXM Recruit are recruiting for an experienced Fleet Technical Manager located in Derby on a 6-month contract basis paying between Β£500 per day (outside IR35).

Key Responsibilities

  • Line management of the Fleet Engineering team
  • Own all Fleet Engineering activities and vehicle maintenance documentation
  • Ensure compliance with all standards and regulatory requirements
  • Lead and manage engineering elements of fleet projects through the Engineering Change process
  • Plan long-term resource requirements to support strategic engineering changes
  • Support the introduction of Class 810 units into day-to-day operation
  • Promote and implement innovation across the Fleet Function, integrating best practices and digital solutions
  • Deputise for the Head of Fleet Technical Services and Professional Head of Engineering when required

What we require?

We’re seeking a forward-thinking engineering leader with a strong technical background and proven leadership capability. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Chartered Engineer status (Electrical or Mechanical)
  • Strong knowledge of railway standards, legislation, and regulatory requirements
  • Extensive experience with railway traction and rolling stock systems
  • A track record of success in senior leadership roles within technical or operational environments
  • The ability to lead, inspire and motivate large teams with clarity and purpose
  • Excellent communication skills – written, verbal, and numerical
  • Strong influencing skills, capable of engaging effectively at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Analytical thinking with the ability to interpret data and apply the right corrective actions.
