We are seeking a highly capable and motivated Performance Engineer to join the Customer Engineering team, supporting high-performance hybrid power unit operations within a fast-paced and technically challenging motorsport environment.
The Performance Engineer will be responsible for calibrating, developing, testing, simulating, specifying, and reviewing Customer Team requests that contribute to performance and reliability improvements of the Power Unit (PU).
Key Responsibilities:- Calibrate, develop, and optimise Power Unit control systems and associated software functions.
- Plan, execute, and report on performance and characterisation testing activities.
- Develop and deliver quantifiable performance, drivability, and reliability improvements within operational limits.
- Analyse large datasets using MATLAB or equivalent numerical computing tools.
- Create and utilise simulation and analytical tools to support engineering development activities.
- Support Customer Team HIL, DIL, Rig, and Dyno testing programmes.
- Specify, develop, and oversee control system tests.
- Champion Power Unit performance during regular engagement with Customer Team engineering contacts.
- Support the implementation of hardware and/or control system updates into the Main Engineering Programme where appropriate.
- Continuously improve Power Unit test methodologies, simulation tools, and data analysis processes.
- Manage Customer Team-specific calibrations for Power Unit systems.
- Provide engineering support across additional Lap Simulation, Calibration, and Control activities as required.
- Strong collaborative skills with the ability to build constructive relationships with customer engineering teams.
- Proven ability to deliver solutions within fast-paced and technically demanding environments.
- Experience authoring Performance and Characterisation Test Requests.
- Strong analytical and optimisation problem-solving capability.
- Experience supporting HIL, DIL, Rig, and Dyno test activities.
- Ability to analyse and interpret large engineering datasets.
- Experience developing simulation or analytical tools for engineering applications.
- Hybrid powertrain operation and control, ideally within Formula 1 or high-performance motorsport.
- Application of analytical methods to engineering challenges.
- Execution of performance and characterisation test programmes.
- Test facility operations and methodologies.
- Power Unit and chassis interaction to optimise vehicle performance.
- Bachelor’s Degree (minimum 2:1) or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
