Summary

The Rolling Stock Doors Team Leader is responsible for leading and managing a team of door technicians (circa 15) to ensure all train door systems are maintained, repaired, overhauled and verified to the highest standards. This role ensures that every vehicle’s door systems are fully operational, compliant, and safe before being released back to the customer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & Management
    • Manage, lead, and develop a team of door technicians on site
    • Plan daily activities, allocate workload, and monitor performance
    • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and support to technicians
    • Ensure staffing levels meet operational and project requirements
    • Carry out performance reviews and support training and competency development
  • Technical & Operational Oversight
    • Oversee all maintenance, fault-finding, overhaul, and repair of rolling stock door systems
    • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with railway standards, OEM requirements, and company procedures
    • Support complex fault diagnostics and provide escalation support when required
    • Monitor productivity and ensure efficient use of labour and resources
  • Inspection & Verification
    • Personally verify and sign off door systems prior to vehicle release
    • Ensure all doors on every unit are fully functional, safe, and compliant
    • Conduct quality inspections and audits of completed work
    • Confirm all testing and documentation is completed accurately before Handover
  • Customer & Stakeholder Interface
    • Act as the main point of contact for door-related activities on site
    • Liaise with production, engineering, and customer representatives
    • Provide updates on progress, issues, and risks affecting delivery
    • Support audits and customer inspections

Key Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience with rolling stock door systems (e.g. sliding, plug external doors)
  • Proven leadership or supervisory experience
  • In-depth knowledge of rail maintenance standards and safety requirements
  • Ability to perform inspections, testing, and technical verification
  • Strong problem-solving and fault-finding ability

Safety and Compliance

  • Adhering to industry standards, company procedures, and safety regulations during all testing processes
  • Ensuring proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials and waste
  • Following all safety procedures and guidelines to protect oneself and others from hazardous materials
  • Wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks, gloves, and coveralls
  • Adhering to environmental regulations and proper disposal methods for paint and solvents
