About the Post

We are seeking to appoint an exceptional and inspirational literacy specialist to join Twynham TGS as Subject Leader: Literacy. This is a genuinely exciting opportunity for an ambitious teacher who is passionate about improving the life chances of young people through literacy. The successful candidate will lead and develop our literacy strategy across both schools, ensuring that every student develops the reading, writing, spelling and oracy skills needed to flourish both in education and beyond.

Working across Twynham School and The Grange School (collectively known as ‘Twynham TGS’), you will provide strategic leadership for literacy whilst leading our specialist literacy team and overseeing literacy interventions for students who require additional support. The role combines whole-school leadership with direct impact on students through targeted intervention, curriculum development and the promotion of a culture where reading is valued and celebrated.

As part of our commitment to inclusion, you will play a key role in supporting students with literacy barriers, including those with dyslexia, ensuring that students who have not met age-related expectations make rapid and sustained progress. You will lead reading assessment, literacy screening and evidence-informed approaches to improving literacy outcomes across the curriculum.

This position would suit either an experienced literacy leader seeking a new challenge or an outstanding classroom practitioner with specialist literacy expertise who is ready to take the next step into middle leadership.

  • Signidicant scope to develop expertise in leiteracy leadership, inclusion and school improvement.
  • The opportunity to work across Twynham School and The Grange School as part of our innovative federation model.
  • An opportunity to work with wonderful children and their families.
  • An exceptional CPD offer from ECT through to preparation for senior and system leadership.
  • Free, confidential access to our Employee Assistance Programme, which offers a range of counselling services plus financial, legal and practical support from qualified professionals on a range of personal issues and access to online health and wellbeing resources.

  • Local discounts negotiated on behalf of our staff e.g. gym memberships, hair and beauty salons, chiropractic care, cycle shops, restaurants, motoring services, and retail/DIY stores.
  • The opportunity to work within Twynham Learning; a progressive multi-academy trust.
  • The opportunity to work in one of the most beautiful areas of the South Coast.
  • Automatic membership of the Teachers Pension Scheme.

  • Experienced in supporting students with SEND and literacy barriers.
  • Committed to evidence-informed practice and continual professional growth.
