Safety Risk & Assurance Manager (Safe Driving)
We're supporting a leading infrastructure organisation in the search for an experienced Safety Risk & Assurance Manager to join its expanding Health & Safety function.
This is a newly created role and a fantastic opportunity to play a key part in shaping the organisation's approach to occupational road risk and safe driving.
Working across a large operational workforce, you'll develop, implement and continuously improve safe driving policies, standards and assurance activities, helping reduce risk and promote a positive safety culture.
You'll work closely with operational leaders, fleet teams and senior stakeholders to influence behavioural change, improve driver safety performance and ensure safe driving remains a key part of the wider business strategy.
The Key Responsibilities of the Safety Risk & Assurance Manager
- Develop, review and maintain safe driving policies, standards and assurance frameworks.
- Lead initiatives focused on reducing occupational road risk across a large mobile workforce.
- Monitor compliance through audits, inspections and assurance activities.
- Analyse road traffic incidents, trends and performance data to identify risks and implement preventative measures.
- Lead investigations into vehicle-related incidents, identifying root causes and driving continuous improvement.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to operational teams and senior stakeholders on safe driving and driver behaviour.
- Work collaboratively with operational and fleet teams to embed best practice and improve driver safety performance.
- Deliver awareness campaigns, coaching initiatives and behavioural safety programmes focused on occupational driving.
- Produce performance reports and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
- Support additional operational risk categories as business priorities evolve.
The Safety Risk & Assurance Manager will have
- Experience working within an organisation with a large fleet and/or a highly mobile operational workforce.
- Previous experience leading or supporting occupational road risk, fleet safety or safe driving programmes.
- Alternatively, a strong background in delivering driver safety or behavioural safety training within a high-risk industry.
- Experience developing, implementing or improving safe driving policies, standards and assurance activities.
- A recognised Health & Safety qualification such as NEBOSH General Certificate, IOSH Managing Safely, NVQ Level 3/5 or equivalent.
- Safe driving or fleet-related qualifications would be highly advantageous, such as:
- Ro SPA Advanced Drivers and Riders qualification
- Driver CPC (where relevant)
- Certificate or Diploma in Road Risk Management
- Behavioural safety or driver coaching qualifications
- Good knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and experience applying practical risk management principles.
- Experience carrying out incident investigations, audits and compliance activities.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to educate, coach and influence people at all levels.
- A proactive, engaging and coaching-led approach with a genuine passion for improving driver safety and reducing operational risk.
