This is a newly created role to support Twinkl’s rapid international sales growth. You will be a key member of Twinkl’s growing Finance team, which is currently 15 strong. You will be responsible for managing all aspects of indirect tax strategy, planning, compliance and reporting, creating best-in-class processes and controls, while also optimising tax rates considering both sales mix and the use of digital services exemptions.
Main responsibilities include:
- Overall responsibility for Twinkl’s indirect tax strategy including identifying indirect tax risks and opportunities arising from Twinkl’s global business
- Optimising Twinkl’s sales tax position and rates in key jurisdictions across the world
- Implementing robust controls across multiple jurisdictions and ensuring tax processes are scalable and can support Twinkl’s international growth
- Ensuring global sales tax compliance, delivering all global sales tax reporting, leading Twinkl’s relationship with global sales tax authorities and managing any sales tax audits
- Leading the budgeting, planning and subsequent execution of global sales tax payments on time, every time
- Monitoring changes in tax legislation, assessing business impact, providing strategic advice to senior management and communicating changes across the business
- Collaborating with various operational teams to ensure seamless integration of indirect tax considerations into business processes and decision-making
- Ownership of indirect tax balance sheet reconciliations, including documentation and continuous improvement processes
- Ensuring a high level of internal customer satisfaction, building excellent relationships across the business
To succeed in the role, you will:
- Have a strong education in Accounting, Tax & Finance
- Hold an accounting and/or tax qualification (CTA, ACCA, ACA, CPA or equivalent)
- Have extensive indirect tax experience, a track record of developing indirect tax strategies and, ideally, experience across education, technology, subscription or consumer markets
- Possess excellent knowledge of global sales tax regulations including digital service exemptions
- Have a proven ability to identify opportunities for tax savings and indirect tax recoveries
- Have a track record of managing US sales tax, including assessing and implementing third-party tax management software
- Be an excellent project manager, driven, with a mindset to get things done whilst bringing the relevant stakeholders along the journey with you
- Have experience optimising, automating and streamlining processes
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex tax legislation and provide practical business advice
- Have excellent communication skills with an ability to explain and report tax matters in a clear and simple way
- Ideally (but not critically) have experience of multi-company structures and indirect tax assessments for transfer pricing between related parties
