Key Responsibilities

  • The Sustainable Raw Materials Specialist is a subject matter expert within TwiningsOvo Social Impact & Sustainability team, responsible for leading the delivery and continuous improvement of responsible sourcing and sustainability initiatives across cocoa, herbs and other key natural raw materials.
  • The role supports building and strengthening sustainable supply chains for both the Twinings as well as the Ovaltine (Ovo) parts of the business.
  • It works at the intersection of sustainability strategy and commercial sourcing, partnering closely with procurement, suppliers and external partners to manage social and environmental risks, embedding sustainability considerations into sourcing decisions and supplier relationships, supporting implementation of due diligence processes, and delivering measurable impact in line with Twinings Sourced with Care ambitions and various regulations.
  • The role is based in Andover, UK, is part of the TwiningsOvo Social Impact & Sustainability team, and reports to the Sustainability Transformation Lead, based in Switzerland.

Strategic Responsible Sourcing Delivery

  • Play a key role in delivering sustainable sourcing and due diligence programmes across assigned raw material categories and origins.
  • Translate TwiningsOvo sustainability commitments into practical, scalable actions within global supply chains.
  • Work closely with Procurement, guiding sourcing decisions, supplier selection and long term category strategies to meet sustainability objectives.
  • Coordinate risk identification and mitigation related to human rights, environmental performance and supply resilience.
  • Conduct research related to sustainable raw material sourcing, e.g. comparison of certifications, environmental impact of various farm-level practices, human rights impacts, livelihoods, etc.

Supplier Engagement & Capability Building

  • Engage with strategic suppliers, building long term partnerships focused on continuous improvement.
  • Conduct human rights and environmental due diligence processes, including supplier assessments, audits and remediation plans, ensuring issues are addressed effectively and sustainably.
  • Support suppliers to strengthen management systems, farm level practices and social outcomes, including in collaboration with third parties and industry associations.
  • Represent TwiningsOvo confidently and credibly with suppliers, NGOs, industry groups and implementation partners.

Remediation Programme Ownership

  • Support the identification, design, implementation and monitoring of remediation programmes in sourcing regions, aligned to human and environmental due diligence expectations and taking into account joint industry collaboration opportunities.
  • Ensure programmes are outcome focused, evidence based and continuously improved based on data and learnings in order to prevent and remedy human rights risks and improve environmental resilience.
  • Support innovation in programme design to maximise impact and scalability.

Data, Reporting & Governance

  • Contribute to internal and external ESG reporting, customer requirements and public disclosures, and support ESG data management related to raw materials.
  • Support compliance with internal policies, global standards and relevant legislation (e.g. human rights due diligence frameworks).
  • Use data and insights to inform decision making, prioritisation and risk management.

Cross Functional Collaboration & Internal communication

  • Support embedding sustainability into business processes by working cross functionally with Procurement, Quality, Legal, Supply Chain and Brand teams.
  • Contribute to internal communications, leadership updates and external storytelling where appropriate.

Continuous Improvement & External Awareness

  • Monitor emerging sustainability, human rights and environmental trends and regulations relevant to agricultural supply chains.
  • Monitor developments in competitor practices and customer expectations regarding sustainable raw materials.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to strengthen Twinings approach and stay ahead of regulatory, customer and stakeholder expectations.
  • Contribute to the evolution of TwiningsOvo responsible sourcing strategies and policies.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in sustainability, environmental management, international development, agriculture, supply chain or a related discipline.
  • Experience in sustainability, ethical trade or responsible sourcing within FMCG, agriculture or global supply chains.
  • Strong understanding of agricultural raw material sourcing (ideally cocoa, herbs or similar commodities).
  • Proven experience working directly with suppliers in origin countries and managing complex sustainability challenges.
  • Strong analytical capability, including experience managing data, assessments and reporting.
  • Knowledge of applying sustainability principles within commercial and global supply chain contexts.
  • Experience designing or implementing social impact or sustainability programmes at origin.
  • Familiarity with sustainability standards, certifications and human rights frameworks.
  • Experience supporting ESG disclosures and customer sustainability requirements.
  • Additional languages (e.g. German, French, Arabic, Turkish, or languages relevant to key sourcing regions such as Serbo-Croatian or Albanian).
