As a Pack Change Technologist, you’ll play a pivotal role within Twinings' lean, performance-focused, and innovative New Product Development (NPD) team. Responsible for delivering exceptional design and print initiatives across NPD and brand redesign projects, you will combine a passion for quality with a commercial mindset to create packaging that resonates with consumers and drives brand success.
In this partnering role, you’ll collaborate closely with key stakeholders, influencing priorities and aligning efforts across markets, the Tea Supply Chain, and the NPD team. You’ll confidently lead workstream teams, taking ownership of projects to ensure on-time, high-quality delivery that balances market needs with business objectives.
As a passionate packaging expert, you’ll continuously seek to inspire innovation in core packaging and print, identifying opportunities to enhance Twinings’ competitive edge and support future brand growth. You’ll also manage relationships with design agencies, ensuring alignment with Twinings' vision and standards, and deliver exceptional customer service while constructively challenging stakeholders to achieve the best outcomes for the business.
Key Responsibilities- Partner strategically with key stakeholders, utilising exceptional influencing skills to align priorities, foster collaboration, and ensure cohesive project delivery.
- Take ownership of assigned projects, confidently leading cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality results on time and within scope.
- Lead the Design-to-Print process within New Product Development (NPD) projects, encompassing new product launches, full brand redesigns, optimisation, and sustainability initiatives, with a focus on achieving "Right First Time" outcomes.
- Oversee multi-market packaging projects, managing the end-to-end artwork process from initial design concepts to full packaging rollout, ensuring artwork requirements are effectively evaluated and executed.
- Serve as the Workstream Lead for agreed projects, managing packaging briefs through to launch and driving workstream implementation to support both business objectives and personal development.
- Identify and implement opportunities for Continuous Process Improvement within Twinings' print and Design-to-Print processes, raising standards while balancing quality with commercial needs.
- Drive material harmonisation efforts, where feasible, to reduce complexity and costs across the supply chain.
- Scope and define requirements for Material Evaluation Requests for new specifications requiring costing.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Procurement, and Packaging Technologists to ensure thorough and informed cost assessments.
- Develop costing and origination budgets for assigned projects, ensuring financial transparency and feasibility.
- Lead onboarding of new design agencies, fostering positive relationships and alignment with Twinings’ ways of working.
- Support the Tea Supply Chain team by delivering optimisation and supplier transfer projects that improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Manage and communicate artwork critical paths, actions, and timelines, ensuring timely follow-ups, approvals, and escalation when necessary.
- Proactively identify risks to Design-to-Print delivery and collaborate with stakeholders to implement mitigation strategies.
- Partner with Packaging Technologists to define trial parameters, establish Critical Success Factors (CSFs), and facilitate clear communication of decisions.
- Facilitate key packaging and artwork meetings, from design finalisation to file acceptance, including external pre-production meetings to align all stakeholders.
- Develop detailed technical repro briefs for Design-to-Print projects and conduct technical assessments of repro files to ensure print quality meets established standards.
- Collaborate with external stakeholders to explore print and finish opportunities, providing insights to the Packaging Innovation Manager to inspire market ideation and influence strategy.
- Address technical queries related to packaging promptly to ensure successful project delivery.
- Evaluate design concepts for feasibility, providing technical guidance and support to marketing teams.
- Stay informed on cutting-edge print technologies, becoming a technical expert and ensuring Twinings adopts best practices to maintain competitive advantage.
- Build and maintain a robust network of internal and external stakeholders, including repro agencies, design agencies, packaging suppliers, regulatory teams, and marketing teams, to enhance business performance.
- Collaborate with the broader packaging team to share knowledge and drive innovation in packaging solutions.
- Exemplify Twinings’ Innovation Behaviours, serving as a role model for embracing and driving innovation within the organisation.
- Experience within FMCG packaging development, preferably within an NPD function.
- Experience in structural and design packaging development process.
- Excellent knowledge of artwork design and repro process including DAM and web based artwork management systems.
- Experience in packaging design / development.
- Commercial exposure to support delivery of successful NPD projects.
- Project management experience with a proven track record of successfully delivering printed packaging solutions.
- Technical knowledge of packaging construction, artwork design and print development process.
- Knowledge in material manufacturing and converting, product/packaging interaction, barrier properties.
- Knowledge of all packaging print processes.
- Good understanding of packaging line trials.
- Computer literate in Microsoft packages.
