Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a project based in Derby. The successful candidate will have a strong commercial background within civil engineering, groundworks, reinforced concrete (RC) and concrete structures. This role requires someone capable of taking commercial ownership of their packages and working closely with the project and site teams to ensure works are delivered within budget and contractual requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Take commercial responsibility for civils, groundworks and RC packages.
- Manage project costs, budgets and commercial performance.
- Prepare and manage valuations, applications for payment and variations.
- Produce accurate cost forecasts and CVRs.
- Identify, assess and manage commercial risks and opportunities.
- Manage subcontractor accounts from procurement through to final account.
- Assess subcontractor applications and payments.
- Manage change control, variations and contractual notices.
- Monitor project expenditure against agreed budgets.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Site Managers and engineering teams.
- Support commercial negotiations with clients and subcontractors.
- Prepare and agree final accounts.
- Ensure accurate commercial reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
Experience Required
- Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or experienced Project Quantity Surveyor.
- Strong background within civil engineering and groundworks.
- Significant experience working with reinforced concrete (RC) and concrete structures.
- Experience commercially managing major construction packages.
- Strong understanding of subcontractor management and procurement.
- Experience with valuations, variations, CVRs, forecasting and final accounts.
- Strong contractual and commercial awareness.
- Ability to operate independently and take ownership of the commercial function.
- Previous contractor or specialist subcontractor experience is highly desirable.
