A leading UK infrastructure contractor is looking for an experienced Senior Estimator to join its pre-construction team in Coventry. The Senior Estimator will support major tender opportunities across water, highways, aviation and wider civil engineering projects, taking responsibility for estimating, tender strategy and commercial input throughout the pre-contract stage. The role could also suit an experienced Senior Site Manager or senior construction professional looking to move into estimating.

Senior Estimator Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed tender estimates from first principles.
  • Review drawings, specifications and tender documentation to identify scope, risks and opportunities.
  • Complete quantity take-offs, Bills of Quantities and permanent/temporary works packages.
  • Carry out site visits and assess project conditions that may affect pricing.
  • Obtain, evaluate and negotiate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
  • Compile complete tender submissions, programmes and supporting documentation.
  • Work closely with commercial, engineering, procurement and operational teams throughout the tender process.
  • Support tender strategy, contract negotiations, award and handover to delivery teams.
  • Analyse estimating data and produce commercial reports and dashboards.
  • Mentor junior team members and support improvements to estimating procedures and systems.

Senior Estimator Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Senior Estimator, Estimator or senior construction professional within civil engineering or infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering construction methods, preliminaries and construction planning.
  • Ability to prepare accurate estimates from first principles.
  • Experience evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotations.
  • Strong ability to interpret technical drawings and complete quantity take-offs.
  • Good understanding of permanent and temporary works.
  • Strong commercial awareness and knowledge of construction contracts.
  • Strong planning, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Degree or relevant construction qualification preferred.
  • Experience with CANDY and Bluebeam is advantageous, although training can be provided.
