About the Company:

We are working with a leading Tier 1 main contractor with a strong reputation for delivering high-value, technically complex construction projects across the UK. With a growing portfolio of large-scale industrial schemes, including logistics hubs, warehouses, and mission-critical data centres, they are now seeking an experienced Design Manager to join their dynamic team based in North London.

The Role:

As a Design Manager, you will be responsible for leading the design process on major build projects from pre-construction through to delivery. You will act as the key liaison between clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure that all design elements align with project specifications, programme timelines, and budgetary requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the coordination of design activities on large-scale industrial projects (warehouses, distribution centres, or data centres).
  • Manage the flow of design information across all stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with building regulations, planning conditions, and client specifications.
  • Oversee technical submissions and design packages from consultants and subcontractors.
  • Identify design risks and propose effective solutions.
  • Drive innovation, value engineering, and buildability reviews.
  • Attend design and client meetings, reporting progress and resolving design issues.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Design Manager within a main contractor environment.
  • Strong background in the construction of large industrial buildings, ideally including warehouses or data centres.
  • Excellent knowledge of construction methods, technical standards, and the planning process.
  • Familiarity with BIM processes and digital collaboration platforms (e.g., Revit, Navisworks).
  • Ability to manage multiple design packages and interface with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Degree-qualified in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management (or equivalent).
