An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Design Manager to join a growing engineering and energy solutions business delivering complex infrastructure and decarbonisation projects across the UK. This role offers the opportunity to lead multidisciplinary design teams on a diverse portfolio of projects ranging from feasibility studies through to major energy and infrastructure schemes valued up to £30m.
The Role: As Design Manager, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating the design process from concept through to commissioning, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, within budget, and to the highest technical standards. Working closely with project delivery teams, consultants, subcontractors, and clients, you will provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle while managing design programmes, technical risks, and project stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the design process across multiple projects from development through to delivery.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients and key stakeholders.
- Provide technical support to project teams throughout construction and commissioning.
- Manage multidisciplinary design teams and external design consultants.
- Coordinate design programmes, surveys, and technical deliverables.
- Ensure designs are practical, buildable, compliant, and commercially viable.
- Identify, manage, and mitigate technical risks throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review and coordinate consultant and subcontractor design submissions.
- Ensure technical packages are fully coordinated prior to procurement and construction.
- Support the development of new project opportunities and technical proposals.
- Monitor project budgets and ensure design solutions align with commercial objectives.
- Provide construction-stage support to resolve technical issues and manage design changes.
About You: To be considered for this position, you should have:
- Demonstrable experience in M&E design within a project delivery environment.
- Previous experience leading or managing technical and design teams.
- Strong technical knowledge of large-scale heating and energy systems, including technologies such as heat pumps, boilers, CHP, chillers, heat exchangers, and air handling units.
- Experience delivering engineering projects from concept through to completion.
- Understanding of regulatory compliance requirements associated with infrastructure and industrial projects.
- Knowledge of energy efficiency and decarbonisation solutions, including renewable technologies and building performance improvements.
- Strong project management, planning, and organisational skills.
- The ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and leadership capabilities.
