The Head of Financial and Transaction Communications will build and lead a financial communications practice for a global agency serving the healthcare sector. This hybrid role is based in any US office—New York City, Boston, Chicago, Carmel or San Francisco—or remote within the US, depending on business needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Advisory & Strategy
    • Serve as trusted counsel to senior executives on all aspects of financial and capital markets communications.
    • Develop integrated communication strategies for IR advisory, M&A, IPOs and SPACs, activist defense, restructurings, bankruptcies, executive transitions, divestitures, investor and R&D days, and financial media relations.
    • Translate complex financial and strategic issues into clear, compelling narratives for investors, media, employees, regulators and other stakeholders.
    • Provide real‑time strategic counsel in high‑pressure, confidential situations alongside legal and banking advisors.
  • Transaction/Event‑Driven Communications
    • Lead communications workstreams for event‑driven situations including M&A, IPOs/Spins/SPACs, activism, bankruptcies, cyber or litigation crises, and board/management transitions.
    • Prospect and build relationships with key advisors—bankers, lawyers, etc.—especially in the healthcare sector.
    • Develop communication strategies, materials, media and social considerations, and support pre‑ and post‑announcement activities.
    • Create deal playbooks, scenario plans, press releases, Q&A, investor decks, fact sheets and talking points.
    • Coordinate with key advisors to ensure alignment with regulatory and disclosure requirements.
  • IR Advisory & Related Services
    • Develop and refine client equity stories and investor narratives.
    • Oversee investor‑facing collateral—including presentations, day materials, infographics, and website alignment.
    • Advise on earnings materials and analyst engagement, and produce annual and sustainability reports.
    • Integrate financial communications with broader corporate reputation, ESG and public affairs strategies.
  • Financial Media & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Lead financial and business media strategy, cultivating relationships with key journalists and outlets.
    • Prepare executives for high‑stakes media interviews, investor meetings, earnings calls and roadshows.
  • Practice & People Leadership
    • Build and lead a high‑performing financial communications team, including recruitment, training and mentorship.
    • Set practice standards, playbooks and best‑practice approaches for transaction and capital markets mandates.
    • Foster collaboration across corporate, crisis, public affairs, digital, ESG and brand practices.
    • Contribute to firm leadership, culture and DEI objectives.
  • Business Development
    • Drive growth of the financial communications practice by identifying and pursuing new business opportunities.
    • Lead pitch development and presentations for significant client accounts.
    • Build rapport as a trusted referral partner among corporates, private equity, banks, law firms and other advisors.
    • Shape the agency’s market profile through thought leadership on capital markets and related themes.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in financial communications, investor relations, investment banking, equity research or related fields, with a strong advisory component.
  • Proven track record on complex, high‑stakes situations such as cross‑border M&A, IPOs, shareholder activism, restructurings, turnarounds and crisis communications.
  • Experience in a leading strategic communications or PR firm’s financial/transaction communications practice is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with healthcare clients is a plus.

Skills & Capabilities

  • Deep understanding of capital markets and the needs of institutional investors and analysts.
  • Exceptional writing skills, producing clear, concise, persuasive materials under tight deadlines.
  • Strong judgment and discretion when advising senior executives and boards.
  • Comfortable operating in fast‑paced, ambiguous, time‑pressure situations.
  • Strong project and team management skills, handling multiple complex engagements simultaneously.
  • Collaborative, low‑ego mindset, capable of integrating with cross‑functional teams.

Education & Other

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, JD or related) a plus but not required.
  • Understanding of U.S. regulatory and disclosure frameworks; global regulatory expertise not required but helpful.
  • Willingness to work extended hours during live situations and travel as required.

Pay Range

$300,000 – $360,000.
