The Role
SAIF Autonomy is seeking a talented UAS Build Engineer with UAS Pilot. You will be responsible for the assembly, maintenance, testing, operation and deployment of unmanned aircraft systems in support of our SAIF product family NEXUS/FORGE/PRISM. This role combines technical expertise in drone construction and troubleshooting, with operational proficiency in safe and compliant flight operations. The successful candidate will ensure aircraft readiness, collect mission data, maintain regulatory compliance and contribute to continuous improvement of UAS platforms and procedures. Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain UK security clearance and must have the right to work in the UK without sponsorship.
Responsibilities
- Build, assemble and configure UAS platforms according to engineering specifications and operational requirements.
- Integrate flight controllers, propulsion systems, payloads, communication systems, sensors and supporting hardware.
- Perform wiring, soldering, fabrication and mechanical assembly of airframes and components.
- Install and configure software, firmware and ground control systems.
- Conduct bench testing and system validation prior to flight operations.
- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance and repairs on UAS equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, software and communication system issues.
- Maintain maintenance logs, repair records and configuration documentation.
- Manage spare parts inventory and recommend replacement or upgrade requirements.
- Ensure all aircraft remain mission-ready and airworthy.
- Maintain required UAS certifications, licenses and training.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable aviation regulations, airspace requirements and organizational policies.
- Prepare operational documentation, flight logs, waivers and mission reports.
- Promote a strong safety culture and participate in safety reviews and incident investigations.
- Stay informed of evolving UAS regulations, technologies and industry best practices.

- Evidential experience building, maintaining and operating unmanned aircraft systems.
- Knowledge of UAS components, electronics, propulsion systems and flight control systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and software issues.
- Experience with mission planning and ground control software.
- Strong understanding of aviation safety principles and risk management.
- Ability to work independently and in field environments.
- Strong organisational, documentation and communication skills.
- Open A1/3 Essential. A2CofC Desirable.
