twentyAI are working with a leading Seed Scale up experiencing rapid commercial expansion. They are a team led by exceptional scientific talent backed by top-tier investors. They offer a hybrid working environment, as well as a strong equity package.

About the Role

They are seeking their first software engineering hire - a technical leader who will architect the future of manufacturing software while building engineering culture from the ground up. This is a strategic-level hire to lead their transformation from a service-based company to a scalable SaaS platform serving the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies. You will be the technical architect of their platform evolution, building the abstraction layer above ML models and pipelines that will enable access to predictive chemical process optimisation. This role combines the strategic responsibility of defining the entire technology stack, and the leadership opportunity of building a talented engineering team of do-ers. They want someone excited to build scalable, production-grade systems and contribute to a thoughtful, collaborative team environment where scientific rigour meets software engineering excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Multi-Tenant SaaS Architecture: Design and implement a secure, compliant platform serving multiple pharmaceutical giants simultaneously while maintaining strict data isolation. Build enterprise-grade systems with Identity and Access Management (IAM), role-based access control (RBAC), and multi-tenant isolation patterns.
  • ML Integration & API Development: Build robust APIs that interact with existing ML models and pipelines, currently hosted on Azure, but open to changing cloud provider.
  • Technical Leadership: Join core leadership team, directly shaping company strategy and technical direction. You will have complete autonomy to select and implement the entire technology architecture - from cloud infrastructure and databases to frontend frameworks and DevOps pipelines.
  • Engineering Culture: Establish engineering practices, development workflows, and team culture that will attract talent as they scale. Define the approach to code quality, testing, deployment, and technical documentation.

What Do You Need?

  • Core Technical Excellence: Competencies in modern web technologies, API design, and cloud architecture with 5+ years of professional experience. Strong experience in programming and cloud platforms, Microsoft Azure and MySQL preferred but not required. Understanding of ML systems integration and modern deployment practices, particularly in scientific or engineering domains.
  • Leadership & Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated ability to architect systems from the ground up, making technology stack decisions that balance current needs with long-term scalability. Experience working closely with domain experts (scientists, engineers) to translate complex requirements into technical solutions. Comfortable navigating technical challenges, contributing to strategic discussions, and refining business requirements.
  • Domain & Regulatory Knowledge: STEM background from a top-tier institution with demonstrable technical excellence.
