Director Engineering – FinTech – London (3 days)

We're looking for a Director Engineering to join this award-winning FinTech company based in London, revolutionising how businesses manage their finances. They're an established org but in the exciting early stages of building out more offerings and early in their journey of embracing AI. We're looking for curious, collaborative, and creative leaders to help us achieve their ambitious goals.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a global Engineering leader to build, nurture, and scale high-performing teams based in London that consistently achieve business objectives and deliver exceptional customer outcomes. Reporting to the CTO, you'll play a key part of a senior engineering leadership team spanning multiple geographies, and business propositions. This role is critical for creating new digital experiences for customers, and will involve significant work on scaling a product and team development.

What You'll Do:

• Lead and mentor engineering teams, fostering a culture of transparency and collaboration within a flat organisational structure.
• Define and execute technical strategies, ensuring lean and efficient processes, and removing roadblocks for your teams.
• Drive technical delivery and ensure teams are focused on business goals, measuring success by business impact rather than lines of code.
• Champion engineering best practices, including TDD, IaC, observability, security by design, and continuous improvement.
• Contribute to architectural discussions and decisions, internalising the best ideas from across the organisation to set a compelling vision.
• Develop team members by teaching them necessary skills to grow their careers.

What We're Looking For:

• A strong technical background with 10+ years of experience designing and engineering large-scale systems, preferably within a FinTech, challenger, or neobank environment.
• Proven experience in leading significant and complex technical transformations.
• Experience working in startups, having built and launched products, scaled teams, and possessing a strong understanding of product and commercial aspects of a business.
• A strong orientation towards customer needs (specifically SMEs), excited by building technology that solves customer problems and builds customer delight.
• Familiarity with our core technologies:
• Languages: TypeScript, React, Python, Java
• Databases: PostgreSQL, BigQuery, MySQL.
• Cloud & DevOps: AWS + GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, GitHub, GitHub Actions.
