TVCC is currently recruiting for a regular, full time (37.5 hours per week) Workshop Technician to fill a vacancy in Clinical and Technical Specialty Services. The designated office for this position is London. This role is essential in helping clients, especially those with physical or communication challenges, gain greater independence and comfort through properly fitted and maintained seating equipment.
Responsibilities
- Collaborating with clinicians (e.g., occupational therapists, physiotherapists), clients, families and vendors to implement technical solutions to enhance fit, comfort, safety, and independence based on assessments of clients.
- Building and customizing equipment, such as seating systems, in accordance with specifications provided by clinicians.
- Mounting communication devices and mobility aids to meet individual client needs. This may also include equipment related to school access and post-surgical rehabilitation needs.
- Providing detailed drawings and specifications to contract manufacturers/vendors when custom equipment is needed.
- Fitting fabricated equipment and making necessary adjustments for client needs, as supported by clinicians.
- Collaborating with clinicians to complete required processes and paperwork as outlined for Assistive Devices Program (ADP).
- Repairing and maintaining new, loaned or donated equipment to ensure safety and functionality while ensuring applicable documentation is completed.
- Managing workshop inventory and ensuring tools and parts are available and organized.
- Completing preventative maintenance for workshop machinery, tools and equipment to ensure safety.
- Routine tasks include scheduling appointments, research of products, tracking of supplies and inventory, as well as keeping the workshop tidy.
Qualifications
- College Diploma or Apprenticeship in carpentry, mechanical engineering technologist, trade focused training, or orthotics and prosthetics technician.
- Minimum 2 years experience specific to designing and fabricating custom equipment.
- Mechanical or technical aptitude.
- Working knowledge of wood/metal working machinery.
- Familiarity with healthcare equipment and assistive devices.
- Excellent creative and problem-solving skills, as well as strong attention to detail.
- Familiarity with various disabilities of clients served by TVCC and the impact of these disabilities on seating and other equipment needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Basic operating knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
- Knowledge of CAD, CNC machine operations considered an asset.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- A valid Ontario driver’s licence and access to a vehicle.
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis.
