Job Summary
The Engineering Degree Apprentice will support the delivery of railway systems engineering projects while undertaking a structured degree apprenticeship programme. The role provides hands‑on experience across a range of technical and operational activities, enabling the apprentice to develop core engineering competencies within a professional environment. This role is designed to develop future engineering talent by combining practical experience with formal education, preparing the individual for a career in railway systems engineering.
Job Description
- Participate in a variety of projects, assisting in ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
- Gain a deep understanding of the technical and operational aspects crucial to railway systems engineering.
- Undertake formal University training, coursework and exams throughout the duration of the apprenticeship.
- Continued engagement and progress within apprenticeship programme.
- Supporting senior colleagues in tasks such as hazard identification and mitigation, fault analysis, technical investigation, auditing, design evaluation, structures assessment work, and maintenance optimisation.
- Preparing and presenting proposals for new work opportunities.
Qualifications
- Qualified at level 2 (i.e., a level 4‑9 in GCSE or equivalent) in English and Maths.
- At least grade B in Maths at A‑level (or equivalent), plus two other B grades at A‑level (or equivalent). These must not be in Citizenship Skills, Critical Thinking or General Studies.
- Relevant engineering BTEC qualification, preceding level apprenticeship (level 3) or equivalent demonstrable work experience in the occupational area.
- Relevant extra‑curricular or industry experience will be considered but is not required.
