About Tutor Doctor

Tutor Doctor Bolton West provides personalised one-to-one tutoring for children and young people across the local area. We do not simply match students with any available tutor. We take time to understand each student’s academic needs, confidence, personality, learning style and goals, then carefully match them with a tutor who is the right fit both academically and personally.

We are currently looking for experienced, reliable and engaging English tutors to support students face-to-face in the local area.

The Role

We are looking for an English tutor who can support a range of students, from upper primary and early secondary through to GCSE. This may include students who are doing well but need support with English confidence, grammar, comprehension and the transition into secondary school, as well as GCSE students who may be struggling with English Language, English Literature, confidence, written expression, reading comprehension or exam preparation. It may also include students who are struggling and require remedial work in order to pass their SATs or GCSE English. Some students may also have additional learning needs, autism, possible dyslexia, low confidence, anxiety around school, or may have become disengaged from learning. The right tutor will be able to build trust, explain clearly and help students feel that English is manageable rather than overwhelming.

This is a face-to-face role only. You must be able to travel to students’ homes or agreed local locations.

What You’ll Be Supporting

  • English Language and English Literature support
  • GCSE English exam preparation
  • Reading comprehension and inference
  • Grammar, punctuation and sentence structure
  • Written expression and vocabulary development

  • Study skills and organisation
  • Confidence-building for students who feel self-conscious asking for help
  • Support for students with possible dyslexia or additional learning needs
  • Transition support for students moving from primary to secondary school

The Type of Tutor We’re Looking For

  • Confident teaching English at secondary level
  • Able to support GCSE English Language and/or Literature
  • Patient, encouraging and clear in their explanations
  • Able to build rapport with students who may lack confidence
  • Comfortable adapting their approach to different personalities and learning styles
  • Organised and reliable
  • Professional when communicating with parents and Tutor Doctor
  • Able to make sessions feel supportive, structured and positive
  • Willing to provide brief feedback after sessions

The ideal tutor will be able to support both confident learners who need stretching and students who may be anxious, disengaged or struggling to believe they can improve.

  • Strong English subject knowledge
  • Experience teaching, tutoring, mentoring or supporting young people
  • Able to deliver sessions face-to-face in the Bolton / Westhoughton / surrounding area
