Job Overview

A Senior Project Manager’s primary responsibility will be to lead a cross functional team to develop world class and highly innovative electrification solutions (including, but not limited to power electronics, motors and battery solutions) to high profile customers, whether that be in construction, rail, autonomous guided vehicles, or commercial on-road vehicles in order to achieve Turntide's mission and ensure the success of the project. The role is based at our site in Gateshead and reports into the Vice President, PMO.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing projects of various size through entire development life cycle from pursuit through to project delivery and hand over to manufacturing.
  • Leading a cross functional team of Engineers and supporting disciplines (e.g., Supply Chain, Quality, Finance) to ensure that the project meets its given requirements to the agreed time, cost, and quality.
  • Working with large OEMs or Tier 1 suppliers in markets such as automotive, rail, construction, marine and commercial vehicles.
  • Dealing and communicating with other stakeholders at all levels within the Turntide and customer organisations.
  • Developing and maintaining full project plans and other relevant project documents.
  • Following the Turntide PMO Stage Gate process.
  • Manage the project using appropriate program management tools (e.g., Lessons Learned, Risk Management, Financial Tracking/Reporting etc).
  • Proactively identify and resolve problems quickly and efficiently, avoiding the need for escalated support as much as possible.
  • Identifying and reacting to change appropriately using formal change management processes.
  • Identifying and developing new opportunities within your projects alongside the Sales or Product function.
  • Managing conflict, whether that be within a project team between project teams or with a customer.
  • Negotiating with suppliers and customers to best support Turntide’s interests.
  • Effectively manage project risk by identifying and putting suitable mitigations in place, escalating to the Project Steering Group where required.
  • Forecast and track project spend, striving to enhance the profitability of the project and encouraging full cross functional team ownership of the business case.
  • Support and deputise for the VP of Program Management as required.
  • Provide support, guidance and development of Project Managers.
  • Support the achievement of departmental KPIs through project delivery and development of departmental processes.
  • Share best practice and support the Program Management team.

The Requirements

We’re looking for candidates with the following experience and skills:

  • Familiar with meeting the requirements to support industry process such as Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and 8D.
  • Proficient in key techniques used to successfully manage a project (e.g., Risk and Issue management, financial and cost management, resource management and project control etc.).
  • Demonstrable excellent leadership and organisation skills with good attention to detail.
  • Proficient in using MS Project Professional as well as other MS Office products.
  • Confident in communicating project status (including financial metrics, risks, issues, and timing to key stakeholders including Project Steering Group, Management Committee and Customers).
  • Able to use various means to report project status (e.g., Presentation, dashboards, summary reports etc.).
  • Experience working in an Engineering environment and managing or contributing to the technical delivery of new product developments.

Bonus Points

It would also be great (but not essential) if in addition to the above you also had:

  • Experience working with large OEMs in Turntide’s key markets.
  • Experience leading the development of new products or new electrification products.
  • Experience leading Innovate UK funded projects during application and delivery.
  • Familiar with appropriate engineering standards such as ISO26262, IEC61508 etc.
  • An awareness and/or experience of customer contracts, supplier agreements and working with third parties in a confidential manner.

Qualifications

A degree or equivalent in the following discipline is required: in an appropriate program management or engineering discipline. Relevant experience could also be considered.
