As a Multiphysics Design Engineer, you will support the design and development of cutting‑edge mechanical systems that push the boundaries of performance, reliability and innovation. If you thrive on solving complex engineering challenges, enjoy hands‑on development, and bring creativity and strong engineering judgement to your work, this role will be an excellent fit. You’ll influence products from clean‑sheet concept through to production, working in an environment with onsite manufacturing and test facilities. You’ll have advanced tools and autonomy to deliver meaningful impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the end‑to‑end design and optimisation of radial-flux and axial‑flux electric machines, including electromagnetic topology selection, sizing, Multiphysics optimisation, and performance prediction across electrical, thermal, and structural domains.
- Conduct detailed thermal and structural analyses to ensure motor performance, reliability, cooling efficiency, and mechanical integrity under all operating conditions.
- Perform electromagnetic, thermal and structural FEA using industry standard tools.
- Support drawing creation, prototype builds, testing and validation activities through multiple development phases.
- Work closely with mechanical, manufacturing and control teams to ensure seamless integration produce detailed design reports, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Support research into new materials, motor concepts and advance cooling concepts, and manufacturing improvements.
- Identify the opportunities to enhance motor performance, cost, manufacturability and efficiency.
- Involvement in the creation of project plans, with input to technical delivery, time plans and budgeting.
- Supporting the Quality department in investigations and inspection activities as well as assisting with improvements to company processes/procedures including manufacturing.
- Supporting the product team with the development of market analyses and gaining insights into customer needs.
The Requirements
- Strong understanding of electromagnetics, electric motor physics, and thermal behaviour.
- Proficiency with finite‑element analysis tools such as CFD, Ansys Maxwell, Ansys Mechanical, Siemens, JMag, and MotorCAD.
- Ability to interpret test data and correlate findings with simulation results.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multi‑disciplinary team and manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Ability to create technical documentation and presentations.
Qualifications
- A degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering at a minimum of 2:2 classification is required. A Masters or PhD in a relevant discipline is desirable.
- Relevant experience could also be considered.
