Job Introduction
It is essential that you drive and have access to your own vehicle to be eligible to apply for this position.
Do you want to help build a brighter future for communities and individuals in Wakefield and district through a highly rewarding job? Turning Point’s drug & alcohol services are expanding during an exciting time with new funding and investment. We have roles for people passionate about supporting others to make change.
As a Recovery Worker, we offer a starting salary of £24,150 with annual pay progression up to £28,252. (Dependent on experience, you may be offered a starting salary above the initial amount).
Opportunities for career progression include structured learning and clear pathways, enabling you to achieve your long-term goals and work to your strengths. Whether progressing into management or becoming a specialist like an Advanced Substance Use Practitioner, we support your career journey.
Role Responsibilities
Recovery workers act as ‘key workers’ supporting a caseload of service users, helping them set treatment goals and develop plans to achieve these. Responsibilities include maintaining contact, offering advice, psycho-social interventions, assessments, risk management, and collaborating with clinical staff and partner agencies. Effective communication, task management, and commitment to Turning Point values are essential. Candidates with lived experience of substance use, mental health, homelessness, or supporting health and social care are encouraged to apply.
The Ideal Candidate
You should understand substance and alcohol use challenges and opportunities. Transferable skills from mental health, housing, or social care are valued. Flexibility, dynamic working, knowledge of relapse, and barriers to recovery are vital. Excellent communication skills and shared organizational values are also important. Our Trainee Recovery Worker program enables those without all experience to start entry-level and grow within the organization.
We value creativity and initiative, involving staff in service improvements. Extensive training and a learning culture support your development and staying updated in your field.
