Turning Point\’s drug & alcohol services are expanding during an exciting time in the sector with new funding and investment. We have a range of roles for people passionate about supporting others to make change.

Recovery workers act as \’key workers\’ to a caseload of service users, supporting them to decide their goals around treatment and develop plans to achieve these. The role includes maintaining regular contact with clients, offering advice, information and psychosocial interventions, as well as providing assessments, risk management planning and working closely with our clinical staff around prescribing needs and partner agencies. You will be responsible for delivering harm reduction evidence-based interventions to reduce drug-related harms, including needle and syringe provision, safer injecting information and support, and advice around blood-borne virus prevention and treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a key worker to a caseload of service users, supporting goal setting and treatment planning.
  • Maintain regular contact with clients and provide advice, information and psychosocial interventions.
  • Conduct assessments and risk management planning; work with clinical staff on prescribing needs and partner agencies.
  • Deliver harm reduction interventions to reduce drug-related harms, including needle and syringe provision, safer injecting information and BBV prevention/treatment advice.

Requirements and Skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a range of service users and colleagues; strong task management and commitment to Turning Point values.
  • Good IT and communication skills; understanding of substance and alcohol use and challenges on the recovery journey.
  • Knowledge that many people have transferable skills from backgrounds such as mental health, housing or other health and social care provision; flexibility to work one-to-one and in groups; understanding of relapse and barriers to recovery.
  • Valuing lived experience while also welcoming those new to this line of work; Trainee Recovery Worker program available to gain entry-level experience before moving to other roles.
  • Willingness to contribute ideas and participate in service improvements; extensive training and a learning culture to stay up-to-date in the field.

Rewards and Career Development

  • Starting salary £25,116 with annual pay progression up to £29,383 (Pro Rata); dependent on experience, may be offered above the starting rate.
