About the Role

As a Support Worker you will make a real difference to residents' lives as you improve their daily living skills. You will work in 24‑hour supported living facilities providing care for adults with Learning Disabilities. The service includes support with complex learning disabilities, autism, health needs and physical disabilities. Some service users are non‑verbal and others require higher levels of personal care and manual handling/hoisting. This is a very hands‑on role. A strong focus is on supporting individuals' lives in a person‑centred way, including activities, shopping, managing own budgets and cooking. You must be a driver to be considered for this role.

Shift Patterns

24‑hour service, therefore flexibility is essential. You will work a range of shifts from 7:00/8:00 am to 2:00/3:00 pm, 2:00/3:00 pm to 9:00/10:00 pm, sleep‑ins or waking nights, some weekends. Working hours may vary from service to service.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the independence of people we support.
  • Support a full range of daily activities including personal intimate care, support with eating and drinking and involvement in day‑to‑day activities in the home.
  • PEG feeding/flushing.
  • Follow health professionals' guidance and protocols around eating and drinking, behaviour and mobility.
  • Support individuals to stay safe using positive risk assessments.
  • Manual handling & hoisting.
  • Support people with medication including creams and lotions.
  • Ensure record‑keeping is maintained to the required standard and contribute to service monitoring requirements using a digital recording system.

Required Skills and Qualities

  • Passionate, caring and enthusiastic.

  • A great team player with lots of energy.
  • Able to demonstrate good communication skills.
  • Able to complete the physical aspects of the role such as manual handling where needed.
  • Transferable experience of helping people to manage anxiety.
  • Knowledge of learning disabilities and complex needs would be beneficial but not essential.
