We are looking for a Lead Support Worker to join our teams in Wakefield. This role is perfect for someone who is eager to progress, gain more experience, and take on new responsibilities—without the line management duties. As a Lead Support Worker, you will work closely with the Team Manager to help drive quality and consistency with the support we provide. You will play an active role in coordinating shifts, carrying out audits, and assessing staff competencies, ensuring that we continue to deliver outstanding care. In return, you will receive an additional 5% on your salary for additional duties, as well as the opportunity to take part in leadership training to enhance your career.

You will be working at one of our services providing care for adults with Learning Disabilities and additional health issues. We are looking for individuals to support our service users who have complex health needs and sometimes require 1-1 support. We endeavour to create positive family relationships offering a good circle of support. It is a well-regarded service with a community feel and during the summer months we hold lots of events.

Shift Patterns

This is a 24-hour service, therefore flexibility is essential. You will be working a range of shifts including early mornings, late evenings, waking nights, sleep-ins and some weekends.

Role Responsibility

This is a hands-on job in which no two days are the same. Your duties will include:

  • Train new support workers in the best practices and procedures to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Support involvement initiatives across the home, eliciting colleague engagement as the voice of those they support, ensuring the people we support are at the heart of our ways of working.
  • Complete observations of Support Workers and provide feedback and mentoring to support their development and completion of competencies.
  • Support colleagues in the use of assistive technology to enhance the lives of the people we support to live as independently as possible.

The Ideal Candidate

Whilst knowledge of learning disabilities and complex needs would be beneficial, it isn't essential. What is essential is that you have:

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport within the team.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • The ability to act as a role model to new colleagues and Support Workers.
