An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Registered Nurse (RGN) or RMN to join Turning Point’s CQC Outstanding rated Substance Use Services across Leicestershire and Rutland. Role Responsibility

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team with adults who are affected by substance use, you will support holistic treatment planning and formative assessment and play a vital role in the delivery of person-centred clinical interventions. As a Specialist Substance Use Nurse you will deliver clinics which will include completing and providing health and wellbeing assessments either remotely or face to face, during which you will also provide tailored and responsive health and wellbeing advice, liaison with other professionals, facilitate referrals into other health related services which may include primary care, hepatology, mental health services, smoking cessation, weight management and sexual health as examples.

As part of this dynamic nursing role, you will be expected to deliver a variety of needs led clinical interventions. These may include the following:

  • Fibroscan exams as part of liver health screening
  • Electrocardiograms (ECGs)
  • Blood Borne Virus (BBV) screening
  • Administration of vaccinations and both intramuscular and subcutaneous injections
  • Take venous blood samples to support the delivery of a phlebotomy service
  • Support medication dispensing and monitoring during medically assisted detox

We would welcome applications from any registered nurse who is passionate about improving health and wellbeing and wishes to develop their skills, knowledge, and experience within substance use. A tailored induction and training package dependent on your experience will be offered in addition to support with continued professional development. You will be provided with both one to one and peer clinical supervision, access to a National Prescribers and Clinicians meeting, staff and practice development forums and allocated time for continuous professional development.

As an employee you will have access to RCNi to assist with revalidation, indemnity insurance and support from the Clinical Operations Manager, Clinical Lead (Consultant Psychiatrist) and Turning Point’s National Chief Pharmacist. The role may entail running clinics throughout Leicester City, Leicestershire & Rutland, the ability to travel and work flexibly is essential.

The Ideal Candidate

You will need to be a qualified nurse registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council. As an employee you will have access to RCNi to assist with revalidation, indemnity insurance and support and supervision from the nurse manager and clinical lead. And of course, we’re looking for a Nurse who loves talking to people with different needs, is genuinely interested in helping them, and possesses a deep level of empathy, understanding and patience.
