Clinical Lead (GP, Psychiatrist or Addiction Speciality Doctor)– Herefordshire

We are currently recruiting for a Consultant Addiction Psychiatrist, GP Specialist in Addiction, or experienced Addiction Specialty Doctor to serve as a Clinical Lead in our Herefordshire substance use recovery service. The Clinical Lead will:

• Lead clinical governance and quality assurance, including audits, clinical effectiveness, and patient safety.
• Drive service development initiatives.
• Advise on commissioning and policy implementation.
• Lead research and innovation to develop clinical guidance and protocols.
• Collaborate with national colleagues to optimize patient care.
• Supervise, appraise, and train clinical staff.

They will also:

• Provide expert advice on diagnosis, assessment, and care planning, especially for complex cases involving drug interactions, comorbid health issues, and integrated treatments.
• Accept referrals for individuals with severe or complex needs.
• Oversee psychosocial support based on current research evidence.
• Introduce innovative interventions to improve outcomes.
• Handle complex prescribing, including injectable opioid treatments if necessary.
• Offer liaison services in medical and psychiatric settings and provide expert advice to courts and officers.

This part-time vacancy requires a flexible commitment, with a minimum of 1.5 days per week, including at least one day in Hereford for meetings, supervision, and face-to-face consultations. The remaining days will be arranged based on the candidate's experience and service needs.

We support ongoing professional development through supervision, CPD programs, and assistance with appraisals and revalidations. The successful applicant must be accredited as a ‘specialist’ in substance use treatment and meet one of the following criteria:

• Be listed on the GMC’s Specialist Register as a psychiatrist with an endorsement in addiction, including supervision and CPD requirements.
• Have equivalent training, experience, and supervision certified by the GMC via a Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).
• Be listed on the GMC’s GP Register (or equivalent) with appropriate training and experience in addiction.
