Turners (Soham) Ltd is the UK's largest privately owned transport company, and we are looking to recruit a Trainee Transport Planner to work in our Container Division based in Southampton. This is a great opportunity for somebody to progress their career in the logistics industry.
Main function of the role:
- Assist with daily planning and vehicle scheduling
- Track on the day deliveries ensuring ETAs are communicated to customers and the transport operations team
- Update Transport Management Systems
- Communicate with customers, depots, and subcontractors to ensure smooth operations
- Prepare delivery notes
- Brief drivers clearly and concisely
- Assist with fleet admin tasks
- Use Port and Depot IT systems to create vehicle bookings and maintain pre-booked appointments
- Support with customer service and other basic admin tasks
Ideal candidate attributes:
- GCSEs or equivalent education
- Full UK driving licence (advantageous but not essential)
- Good communication skills
- Organised, detail-focused, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Computer literate, MS Office, and ability to learn company in-house IT systems
- Team player
- Flexible for occasional early starts/late finishes during busy periods
- Basic UK geography helpful
