Temporary Principal Programme Manager 9 months FTC Mansfield / Hybrid c£56,361- £ 62,623 An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and strategic Principal Programme Manager to lead the delivery of a large-scale, government-funded environmental remediation programme. This senior-level position involves managing cross-sector collaboration, driving delivery across multiple complex projects, and ensuring strong governance, assurance, and stakeholder engagement. You\’ll play a key role in leading internal project teams, supporting senior leadership, and ensuring the successful delivery of a nationally significant programme. The role of Principal Programme Manager will involve Act as the senior delivery lead for a major environmental programme, representing the internal delivery body at programme boards and senior stakeholder meetings. Lead programme-level planning, strategy development, and budget management. Ensure delivery of projects to time, cost, and quality through oversight, leadership, and assurance. Line manage internal project managers and team leads, supporting performance and development. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with government departments, delivery partners, and internal stakeholders. Coordinate with internal functions including technical, property, safety, health, environment, and operations teams to ensure successful project delivery. Monitor programme risks, track progress, and lead on financial reporting. Identify resource gaps and skills development needs across the programme team. Promote a culture of continuous improvement by sharing lessons learned and best practices across delivery areas.The ideal candidate for the role Principal Programme Manager: We\’re looking for someone who brings a blend of strategic thinking, operational leadership, and stakeholder engagement. The ideal candidate will be: An experienced programme or project manager with a track record of delivering large-scale, multi-stakeholder programmes in the public or environmental sector. Skilled in governance, reporting, and financial management of complex programmes. Comfortable leading teams, influencing at senior levels, and working across organisational boundaries. Organised, outcome-focused, and able to drive performance across a wide portfolio of projects. Relevant qualifications (e.g., PRINCE2, MSP, APM PMQ).
