Project Controls Manager – Energy & Natural Resource

Full‑time. Department: Energy and natural resources. Location: Warrington office, 3 days per week.

Our North West team is experiencing significant growth and is recruiting Project Controls Managers to support a leading nuclear client.

Candidates should have senior project planning, cost control and/or risk management experience, and be able to manage cross‑discipline teams at a professional level.

Main Purpose of the Role

The Project Controls Manager (PCM) will lead a team of project controls professionals to deliver effective, consistent, assured and value‑adding services to our nuclear client across complex programmes.

The PCM will define performance management cadences, maintain robust planning and controls deliverables, and ensure that projects are delivered to time, cost and quality targets.

  • Key Accountabilities
  • Lead cross‑discipline teams to deliver robust project controls services and continuous improvement.
  • Define and implement project controls approaches at project, programme and portfolio levels for effective decision‑making.
  • Establish governance and assurance processes around project controls products.
  • Ensure adherence to NEC or FIDIC contract processes for project controls data and deliverables.
  • Develop breakdown structures, support scope definitions and create project controls products with client professionals.
  • Define and document scaled, tailored and integrated approaches for project controls (e. g., in a Project Control System Definition).
  • Manage scope, cost, risk and schedule integration; analyse performance data to provide delivery insight.
  • Train and coach client teams and junior project members on performance and reporting management processes.
  • Assure the quality, accuracy and integrity of the project controls team’s output.
  • Perform line management activities, including career development and performance management.
  • Communicate with senior management and leadership on performance management updates in complex environments.
  • Guide the team on the use of systems and tools such as Primavera P6, Power BI and Excel.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Senior professional experience in multiple project controls disciplines (Planning, Cost Estimation, Cost Management, Risk Management or Reporting) across various sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of project controls software packages (e. g., Primavera P6, Active Risk Manager, Ecosys).
  • Ability to assess team maturity and improve ways of working.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder management and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Demand flexibility and a desire to work within the nuclear sector.
  • Ability to obtain BPSS level security clearance.
  • Member of a relevant professional body such as the Association for Project Management or Project Management Institute.
