We are looking for an experienced and proactive Accounts Semi-Senior to join our growing team in Otley. The role offers exposure to a varied portfolio of clients and will involve a mix of bookkeeping, VAT, accounts preparation, and tax compliance work, alongside supporting the continued digitalisation of the office.
About the Role
You will support a wide range of clients including sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies, working closely with senior accountants and managers to deliver a high-quality service. Key responsibilities will include:
- Bookkeeping and VAT return preparation
- Preparation of accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies
- Assisting with personal and corporation tax compliance
- Liaising directly with clients and resolving queries
- Supporting digitalisation and cloud accounting adoption
- Helping champion the rollout and use of Xero within the Otley office
- Supporting junior team members where appropriate
- Maintaining accurate client records and ensuring compliance with deadlines and regulations
What We're Looking For
We are seeking someone with previous accountancy practice experience who is comfortable managing work across multiple clients. Essential requirements:
- Previous experience working within an accountancy practice
- AAT qualified (or actively studying)
- Experience preparing accounts and VAT returns
- Knowledge of personal and corporation tax
- Strong organisational and client communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Confident using cloud accounting software, particularly Xero
- A proactive approach to digitalisation and process improvement
Desirable:
- Experience working with agricultural or farming clients
This role would not suit candidates whose experience is solely within industry finance environments.
Working Arrangements & Flexibility
Full-time hours worked across a 4-day week (34 hours). 1 day working from home permitted once fully embedded within the team. Flexibility is available, although current office arrangements require slightly more structured hours to ensure sufficient office cover. Additional flexibility is expected once the two Otley offices combine.
