As the Risk Manager you will play a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of the SMR Project in identifying, assessing Project Risks, and supporting the risk owners with managing risks associated with the delivery of the SMR project. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong analytical background who can effectively communicate complex risk concepts. You will demonstrate accountability for risk management outcomes and possess problem‑solving skills to develop and implement effective mitigation strategies.
Day to day duties:
- Identify and document key assumptions related to project planning and execution. Assess the validity of these assumptions and their potential impact on project outcomes.
- Proactively identify and evaluate potential risks across programmes, projects and initiatives, including financial, operational, and regulatory risks.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to gather insights and assess risk exposure.
- Conduct qualitative risk assessments of the likelihood and impact of identified risks to aid in prioritisation and decision making.
- Perform quantitative risk analysis of cost and schedule to understand the cumulative exposure of risks at the project or programme level.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to address identified risks.
- Regularly monitor and review risk and assumption status, providing updates to senior management and stakeholders.
- Prepare detailed risk reports that summarise findings, mitigation efforts, and recommendations.
- Ensure that risk management is integrated with other delivery functions such as scope, schedule, cost and benefits management.
- Support the integrated reporting of risk management information, with an emphasis on professional communication to aid decision making.
- Address complex risk‑related challenges through innovative solutions.
- Facilitate discussions and workshops to brainstorm and implement effective risk management strategies.
- Ensure that all risk management processes are compliant with GBN policies and nuclear industry regulations.
- Take ownership of risk‑related deliverables and ensure timely execution of risk management activities.
- Lead initiatives to enhance risk management processes and frameworks.
- Stay informed about industry best practices and regulatory changes that may impact risk management strategies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field desirable or demonstrable experience.
- Membership of the Institute of Risk Management, the Associate of Project Management or equivalent.
- Extensive knowledge of risk management principles, methodologies, and best practices, with a focus on the nuclear industry.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with a keen capacity to evaluate complex data and develop evidence‑based recommendations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to articulate intricate risk concepts clearly to diverse audiences, including technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Proven experience working in cross‑functional teams, fostering a collaborative environment to identify and address risks collectively.
- High level of accuracy in risk assessment and reporting, demonstrating a commitment to accountability and thoroughness in all risk management activities.
- Proficiency in the performance of cost and schedule risk analysis using best practice tools such as @risk and Safran.
- Proficiency in risk management software and tools, with strong analytical skills in data evaluation and reporting.
