Due to increased opportunities and demand in the Energy & Natural Resources division, the North West team are recruiting for Project Controls Managers to join a diverse and supportive team during a period of significant growth. Our nuclear client is at the forefront of industry leading change, and we are keen to speak to like-minded individuals with senior project planning, cost control and/or risk management experience at team management level.
Main purpose of the role:
A Project Controls Manager (PCM) will lead cross-discipline teams of project controls professionals to deliver effective, consistent, assured and value adding project controls services to our nuclear client across diverse and complex programmes. In leading the team, they will be responsible for defining and delivering performance management cadences on complex projects/programmes along with all associated processes & reports. They are accountable for maintaining robust planning and project controls deliverables that provide our clients with accurate data to drive management decisions. They will play a key role in ensuring that client objectives are met and that projects are delivered to time and cost targets and the appropriate quality standards.
Key accountabilities:
- Lead cross-discipline teams of project controls professionals to drive delivery of robust and effective project controls services and continuous improvement in project controls processes.
- Define and implement project controls approaches across the project, programme and portfolio levels to enable effective decision making at all levels.
- Define and implement governance and assurance processes around project controls products.
- Ensure adherence to NEC or FIDIC contract processes for management of project controls data and deliverables.
- Collaborate with the client to develop breakdown structures, support scope definitions and project controls products with the team.
- Define tailored approaches for project controls and document them (e.g., in a Project Control System Definition).
- Define scope through management of exclusions, assumptions, interfaces and dependencies, and coordinate the scope's decomposition.
- Work with the Integrated Project Team to establish a robust Performance Measurement Baseline and manage change control.
- Collaborate with Project and Commercial Management to establish and analyse supplier project controls requirements and performance data.
- Ensure integration of scope, cost, risk and schedule; analyse performance data to provide delivery insight and support decisions.
- Train and coach client team and less experienced project team members on performance and reporting management processes.
- Assure the quality, accuracy, and integrity of the Project Controls output.
- Undertake line management activities including career development and performance management.
- Interact with Senior Management / Leadership when delivering updates on Performance Management in a complex environment.
- Guide the team on appropriate use of systems and tools (e.g., Primavera P6, Power BI, Excel) for Performance Management, Analysis & Reporting.
- Contribute to positive change for the client and collaborate effectively with others to deliver their best work.
- Foster a collaborative, respectful team culture that helps individuals reach their potential.
Qualifications:
You have senior professional experience in the application of several Project Controls disciplines (Planning, Cost Estimation, Cost Management, Risk Management or Reporting) across multiple projects in one or more sectors throughout the project lifecycle. Nuclear experience is desirable but not required. You have strong knowledge of project controls software and can coordinate across teams with multidisciplinary expertise.
You will be a strong communicator with leadership behaviours and the ability to influence, manage, motivate, coach and develop a team in a diverse and inclusive environment. You promote empowerment and contribution and have a passion to build a community beyond delivery.
You also:
- Will be able to obtain BPSS level security clearance.
- Are a member of a relevant professional body (e.g., Association for Project Management, Project Management Institute).
- Have practical experience integrating Project Controls disciplines and assessing team maturity and ways of working.
- Have experience using Project Controls software (Primavera P6, Active Risk Manager, Ecosys, etc.).
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Can make risk-based decisions where parameters are unclear and judgment is needed.
- Have strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
- Can navigate conflict situations and defuse tension.
- Have a desire to work within the nuclear sector.
