Due to increased opportunities and demand in the Energy & Natural Resources division, the Energy & Natural Resources team are recruiting Project Managers to join a diverse and supportive team during a period of significant growth. Our nuclear client is at the forefront of industry leading change, and we are keen to speak to individuals with project management experience to see what Turner & Townsend can offer you.

Main Purpose of Role

Lead Project Management Commissions, taking responsibility for end-to-end service delivery, often with respect to large or complex projects. Provide support on major Project Management Commissions, taking responsibility for an aspect of service delivery. Ensure that client objectives are met and that projects are delivered to time and cost targets and the appropriate quality standards.

Scope

Project Managers handle commissions of varying scale and value; depending upon the complexity of the project and the sector, where the service provided is advisory in nature, the scale and value of the project could be significant. Project Manager candidates should be comfortable working to deliver small to medium complexity projects independently with minimal oversight but will have access to the wider expertise within the Turner & Townsend team.

Key Accountabilities

  • Advising at a strategic level at the project inception stage, including providing advice on the different approaches that can be adopted to successfully achieve the client’s overall objectives.
  • Preparing and maintaining definitions of project requirements.
  • Helping to establish the overall success criteria for the project, including time, cost, technical and performance parameters.
  • Establishing effective project governance, processes and systems to be utilised throughout the project.
  • Preparing and maintaining schedules of activity, including producing the master project plan.
  • Managing the development of the project in accordance with approved plans and targets.
  • Developing and implementing resource plans and procurement of resources.
  • Leading and facilitating the overall cross‑functional project team.
  • Monitoring and applying performance management techniques, including the use of KPIs to improve project performance.
  • Managing the change control process.
  • Developing and agreeing budgets and controlling forecast and actual costs against them.
  • Managing the flow of project information between the team and the client, through regular meetings and written communications.
  • Identifying and monitoring project risks and planning and implementing risk mitigations.
  • Preparing formal project progress and other reports.
  • Taking a leading role in interfacing with the client, other consultants, and managing stakeholders at all project stages.
  • Advising the client regarding Health & Safety and Environmental issues and risks.
  • Planning for and the ongoing management of quality, safety, health and environment issues.

Internal Management Accountabilities

  • Staff management (where appropriate) – Inputting into the formal management of an Assistant Project Manager or small project management team, input into resource management and attendance at junior staff appraisals.
  • Knowledge management – Ensuring that key information and learning generated from each project is input into the Turner & Townsend internal database.
  • Process improvement – Identifying and acting upon ways to improve internal systems and processes.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in relevant discipline.
  • Working towards a professional qualification (MCIOB / APM or similar).
  • Proven experience managing HT&M projects, ideally in a consultancy environment.
  • Ability to successfully manage and prioritise more than one project at a time.
  • Will be able to obtain BPSS level security clearance.

SOX control responsibilities may be part of this role, and shall be adhered to where applicable.
