The Associate Cost Manager will support a Ministry of Defence project from a central London client site, working within a highly regulated environment. Immediate start required. The role involves managing the full cost lifecycle of diverse public sector projects, including refurbishment of listed buildings, office fit‑outs, and critical infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Lead commercial delivery of projects
- Build professional relationships with clients and colleagues
- Manage costs in line with project objectives
- Monitor and report project costs accurately
- Control cost variance and contract cash flow
- Collaborate with client and contractor teams
- Manage contract changes effectively
- Improve forecast and budget accuracy
- Provide commercial support to stakeholders
- Negotiate and agree on final accounts
- Mentor junior staff
- Adhere to SOX control responsibilities where applicable
Requirements
- Excellent stakeholder communication
- 5+ years of diverse project experience
- Knowledge of NEC and/or JCT contracts
- Expertise in cost and change management
- Skills in valuation, risk management, procurement, and cost planning
- Reporting proficiency
- Collaborative attitude and commitment to project success
- People and commission management experience
- Ability to drive project efficiencies
- Strong understanding of construction industry technical matters
Qualifications
- Higher security vetting or willingness to obtain it
- Proven track record of delivering high‑quality cost management/quantity surveying services throughout the entire project lifecycle
- Degree or HNC level qualification
- Professional qualification desired (MRICS or similar)
- Ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects simultaneously
